Aerolase LightPod Laser Treatment

Freckles, sun spots, age spots, redness, scars, acne: Any of these factors can take away from the beauty of our complexion. Whether sun damage is to blame, hormonal fluctuations, or a skin disorder, the Aerolase LightPod can significantly improve, and even completely remove these concerns.

The Aerolase LightPod is FDA approved for a variety of concerns including hyperpigmentation, melasma, lax skin, broken capillaries, cystic acne, rosacea, scars, wrinkles, and more. Aerolase can also remove unwanted hair anywhere on the body. It’s unheard of for one device to tackle such an array of issues—and to do them all so well!

Aerolase works on all skin tones. Many lasers simply target any contrast or darkness in the skin. However, when someone's skin is too dark to provide enough contrast with their irregularities, these lasers are not only ineffective but dangerous. Increased melanin content puts you at a higher risk of developing side effects with these types of lasers, such as burns, and hyper/hypo-pigmentation. This isn’t an issue with Aerolase. It's the safest laser in the industry for darker or tan skin.

What makes Aerolase different?

The Aerolase LightPod is an Nd: YAG 1064 nanometer laser with a 650-microsecond pulse duration. As the image below shows, the 1064nm wavelength is superior because it is capable of reaching irregularities in both the dermis and epidermis.

It’s more powerful and versatile, yet safer than other wavelengths, due to its minimal interference with melanin. The high-energy pulse from the Aerolase handpiece is delivered into irregularities with an extremely short pulse. 650-microseconds is shorter than the “thermal relaxation time” of your skin, which means your skin has time to cool between pulses. The targeted structures within your skin (freckles, blood vessels, acne, hair,) retain the energy from the laser while the surrounding skin never becomes hot or uncomfortable. Longer pulses lead to heat retention in the surrounding skin which can make treatment extremely uncomfortable or lead to burns or changes in pigment. The swift pulse makes Aerolase entirely safe for those with darker skin.

What is Aerolase treatment like?

The Aerolase website accurately describes the experience as follows: “The laser energy is pulsed across the skin’s surface in a carefully controlled manner, gradually vaporizing old tissue to stimulate the growth of new skin and collagen for a smooth, evenly toned and youthful appearance.”

The LightPod handpiece itself never makes contact with your face, but you will feel the warm light beam pulse across your face. Most people describe it as relaxing.

In addition to being comfortable and safe for use by everyone, the Aerolase laser is extremely effective. A treatment with Aerolase is like applying an Instagram filter to your face. Imperfections are less perceptible, and the skin glows. After multiple treatments, flaws have vanished completely, and the skin becomes tighter. Some of our clients refer to the Aerolase as “magic pixie dust,” because it’s as if someone waved a magic wand over their face leaving it flawless and luminous.

Following treatment with the Aerolase laser, there is no downtime, and you can return to work or school immediately. No one will be able to tell that you were just treated with a powerful skin-rejuvenating laser.

There may be some light peeling of the skin over the next few days, at which point you’ll see noticeably brighter, more radiant skin. It can take up to six months for new collagen and elastin to grow, so improvement in laxity and fine lines will happen over time.

You’ll want to use sunscreen every day to maintain your results. Sun damage is responsible for the majority of hyperpigmentation, and even incidental exposure can sabotage your results.

It is recommended that you do up to 6 treatments; one a month for six months, ideally.
